New beginnings require endings. And even though endings can be terrifying, accepting that something from your old life does not exist anymore is the only way for you to start something better.
This is where I am right now. Due to structural redundancy, I am forced to reevaluate my options, and at the same time accept that another chapter of my career has come to an end. I won't pretend that it is a pleasant experience. If you've ever experienced a layoff, you know how unsettling it can be, especially when you have a kid who depends on you.
But when I look at my daughter, I’m reminded of how far I’ve come. Becoming a father has changed me more than anything else in my life. It has made me more resilient than I ever expected, and it has taught me to see the world the way I should have seen it all along: job titles and positions do not define who we are.
Here is my message to all of my colleagues who are in the same boat, or to anyone who is currently forced to change course. It is okay to feel scared, to grieve an ending. Give yourself the space required to take it all in. And when you are done, remember that endings are required for something better to come. Endings require courage and honesty. Accepting that something has ended is exactly what forces us to grow and shape our lives into the next story.
As for me, I'd like to take a moment to reflect. For the past 3 years, I've been lucky enough to be part of the demanding world of iGaming, and it has been one hell of a ride. From regulatory requirements to design decisions, every day brought a new puzzle to solve. There are many skills that I learned along the way, but perhaps the most valuable lesson for me is that a product is about its people. Learning to trust your team and at the same time helping them to trust you. A team performs only as well as its communication. Working across languages and cultures only made what we built together more rewarding. I am proud of what we have accomplished with my teams.
I am not sure what the future holds. I have no idea in which industry I will land next. But I strongly believe that this is the beauty of my career path. I am excited about the opportunities that may emerge. I would like to close with a phrase that I heard recently:
> [!quote]+
> Beginnings are beautiful, endings are painful. But endings are the doorway.
Usually, in these situations, we raise our glasses and say "Cheers to what is to come" or "Cheers to a new beginning". I would like to raise my glass and say Cheers to a new ending!
